JANNA BRITTON & ABBEVILLE
DIPPED IN CHOCOLATE
House of Paine Productions
www.jannabritton.com
Janna Britton is no stranger to the blues having performed with Black Top recording artist Robert Ealey for about six years as well as performing at blues festivals and clubs in her home state of Texas and around the United States. Born and raised in Dallas, Janna says her mother who played piano in church was a major influence on her music. It was in church where she first began to sing. Janna's other influences in her music come from a diverse range of blues and rhythm & blues artists from Ida Cox to Nina Simone to Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Her band, Abbeville was formed early this year(2000) and their first album Dipped In Chocolate was released in September. Janna takes control of the album from the get go with her powerful and raunchy vocals which at times sound like Koko Taylor. Featuring great songs and impeccable musicianship from Jimmy Owen-lead, rhythm and acoustic guitar, Kim Nabors-bass, Steve Froese-drums, Ruff Ruffner-keyboards, Johnny Guadarrama and Miles Faherty-saxophones, and Craig "Peabody" Collins-harp, the album swings and rocks through eleven tracks about love and relationships. Eight of these songs were written and co-written by Janna Britton. One of the highlights on the album is the duet with Janna and Robert Ealey on the classic T.Bone Walker recording, Stormy Monday.
Dipped In Chocolate is a passionate an exciting first-class debut that just oozes with sex appeal, Texas blues never sounded so good! Highly recommended.
