****
Singer Marva Wright was born on 20 March 1948 and raised in Carrollton / Mid City section of New Orleans, Louisiana. Her vocal style has its roots in the tradition of African-American gospel music. What would you expect if your mother was a gospel singer and Mahalia Jackson was a close friend of the family? Marva Wright's career as a blues singer started in 1987. Recent releases are "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (5002) and "Bluesiana Mama" (5008); both on Australian label AIM.
Glenn A. Gaines produced "Marva" which was recorded during October and November of the year of the new Millennium at Sound Services in New Orleans. Marva Wright is joined by a number of great musicians including guitarist June Yamagishi, Earl Sith (drums), Benny Turner King (bass), Marc Adams (piano & B-3) and Charles Elam III (horns) only to name a few.
Marva has it all Gospel, Funk, Zydeco, Mardi Gras, R&B and Blues. Some of the great songs are "Rockin' Pneumonia", "Love Away The Pain", Paul Kelly's "Difficult Woman" and "You Broke A Beautiful Thing", Dylan's "Knocking On Heaven's Door" and "Serve Somebody", "Let Them Talk" and Dr. John's "I Been Hoodood". Charmaine Neville, Bo Dollis and Terrance Simien join Marva on "The Weight". Marva Wright has sure got one hell of a voice.
