"Fang It!" was recorded with the late Rory Gallagher's long time rhythm section of Gerry McAvoy (bass & b. vocals) and Brendan O'Neill (drums). But after listening to this release it will the hot guitar work of Gwyn Ashton that everyone will be talking about. Thirty nine year old Gwyn Ashton was born in Wales. He grew up in Adelaide, South Australia and honed his craft gigging all over Australia.
Gwyn Ashton is a competent guitarist wether playing electric or acoustic. In 1994 Ashton released his debut CD "Feel The Heat" (now reissued on Riverside Records RRCD01) and then in 1996 the acoustic "Beg, Borrow & Steel" (GACD 6970). For the last few years he has been touring heavily throughout the U.K. and Europe. In 1999 he supported Status Quo including shows at Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena.
"Fang it!" was recorded at Matrix Studios in London. U.K. Nine Below Zero's Dennis Greaves produced it. Gwyn Ashton's slide guitar work is better than ever and his vocals are still uniquely Australian. Except for Rory Gallagher's "Who's That Coming?" all of the tunes are originals. Some are "I Boogied", "Getting' On Down", "Leave That Girl Alone", "Hot In Here", "Breakin' The Rules" and a tribute to the Iceman Albert Collins "Cold As Ice". The CD closes with an acoustic tune "Faded Memory". A must for any blues collection, so "Fang It!"
