Mal Eastick, who is one of Australia's premier guitarists, was born is Adelaide on 29 November 1954. During the seventies, Eastick was the one of the guitarists in the mighty country rock outfit, Stars. Since then Mal has recorded and/or played with Jimmy Barnes, The Party Boys, Renee Geyer and Matt Taylor's Chain. To name a few.
The rest of the Mal Eastick Band are no slouches at playing either. They are the Paul Rodgers' influenced vocalist John Makey, bass player Ian Lees and one time Dave Hole drummer, Rudy Miranda. Mal Eastick's 1995 debut solo release "The Southern Line" (BRCD-001) has been remastered and re-released with a new tracking order.
The self produced "Spirit" was recorded during 1999 at Paradise Studios in Woolloomoolloo, NSW, Australia. This recent release contains all original tunes. Some of the instruments are "The `E' Street Shuffle", "Grindo Swing", Jungle Funk" and "Blues For Aaron". Other songs are "Takin' `Bout My Baby", "Heavy Heart", "I'll Never Be Back", a swing number "Love So Strong" and the down and dirty slippin' & slidin' "Another Man".
Mal Eastick's guitar playing is explosive yet precise and passionate. Makey's vocals are simply awesome and the rhythm section is watertight. CDs are available from Bluefish Records, P.O. Box 38, North Strathfield, NSW 2137. "The Southern Line" for $25 and "Spirit" for $30, both plus $3 postage Ph/Fax (02) 9706 7800.
