John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Padlock On The Blues
Eagle Rock/Purple Pyramid
John Mayall was born on 29 November, 1933 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. His debut came in 1965 with John Mayall Plays John Mayall and in the same year he released the first of The Bluebreakers' albums. Of course the first was the one with Eric Clapton. Recent albums include the Silvertone releases Wake Up Call, Spinning Coin and Blues For The Lost Days.
The self-produced Padlock On The Blue' was recorded in thirteen days during October 1998 at the American Recording Studio in Calabasas, California. Bad Dream Catcher and Somebody's Watching were recorded with John Lee Hooker at Russian Hill Recording in San Francisco on 6 October, 1998. The Bluesbreakers on this release are Buddy Whittington (guitars), John Paulus (bass) and Joe Yuele (drums).
Twelve of the tracks are penned by Mayall with Always A Brand New Road written by Whittington and Yuele. Some of the songs are Don't Turn Your Back, A Hard Road, I've Got To Talk To You, White Line Fever and When The Blues Are Bad. Former Bluesbreaker, Coco Montoya adds guitar to The Strip and John Mayall plays solo piano on Ain't No Surrender. Another great release from this elder statesman of the blues.
