STEVE ROWE
DRIVING THE BLUES AWAY
Howlin' Blue
After twenty years of playing the blues, Canadian bluesman Steve Rowe has just released his debut CD, Driving The Blues Away. Born in 1955, Steve got his first guitar at the age of thirteen and while learning to play Led Zepplin licks, his older brother told him to listen to Robert Johnson. He spent the next ten years listening and learning from a variety of blues styles from Chicago to Texas, honing his chops before joining his first band at 24. Over the years Steve has played in many bands and at numerous blues festivals and has had the privilege of playing with Albert King and Buddy Guy.
For his debut album Driving The Blues Away, Steve has recorded an album that covers a lot of different blues genres from swing and jump blues to boogies and shuffles to four in the morning slow blues and even delta blues. The album features twelve tracks with ten of them being original songs composed by Steve and lyricist Bob Smith that'll have you rockin' all night. Produced by Kathy Wolf and Kevin Komoda it has a clean and crisp sound that showcases Steve's talented guitar playing and his superb vocals. There are many highlights on this album including the tight and cookin' rhythm section and songs like Don't Dog Me Tonight, Straight From The Hip, Jumpin' & Jivin', the Willie C. Cobbs cover You Don't Love Me which reminded me of the Allman Brothers, and the acoustic Lost Remote Blues which is like a reply to Johnny Winter's T.V. Doctor.
From start to finish Driving The Blues Away is an excellent debut from Steve Rowe who I'm sure we'll be hearing more of in the future.
