Tommy Castro
Live At The Fillmore
(Blind Pig BPCD5059)
Black Market Music
The Tommy Castro Band is based in San Francisco. Frontman singer/guitarist Tommy Castro was born in San Jose. The rest of the band is Randy McDonald (bass), Keith Crossan (saxophone) and the newest member Billy Lee Lewis (drums). Castro is a cool, charismatic and rock-solid bluesman. His past releases are the 1993 debut live CD No Foolin (Saloon SR1993CD) plus his three previous Blind Pig CDs - the 1995 album Exception To The Rule (BPCD5029), Can't Keep A Good Man Down and the 1999 release Right As Rain (BPCD5051).
Live At The Fillmore was recorded at the Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco on 6 March 1999 to celebrate the release of his latest CD. Tommy Castro and Edward Chmelewski produced it. The special guests are the Robert Cray Band and Chris Isaak keyboardist Jimmy Pugh and Tom Poole (trumpet). Eight of the songs are originals. Most of which are from Right As Rain. All of the tracks are great including Like an Angel, Nasty Habits, Lucky as Love, Keep a Good Man Down, Albert King's Can't You See What You're Doing to Me and the closing number James Brown's Sex Machine.
The CD is enhanced and contains an interview and some live footage. It is also available on Video (BPVHS6001) and DVD (BPDVD6001). They have 10 live tracks that are slightly different than the CD. This guy Tommy Castro is cool and in control.
