Peter Green
Hot Foot Powder
(Snapper Music SMACD828)
Shock
The legendary Peter Green (Greenbaum) is back with his fifth release with The Splinter Group since his comeback in 1996. Hot Foot Powder is similar to his 1997 release The Robert Johnson Songbook (Snapper SARCD 002), as it is full of Robert Johnson tunes. The members of the band this time around are Nigel Watson (guitars and vocals), Roger Cotton (guitar and piano), Pete Stroud (upright bass) and Larry Tolfree (drums).
Hot Foot Powder was recorded in New York, Chicago and San Francisco in the US and in Kent, England. It was produced by Cotton, Green and Watson. Come On In My Kitchen, Preachin' Blues and Malted Milk were recorded at Zero 1 Studio and produced by Watson and Green. There are plenty of guests on Hot Foot Powder. Buddy Guy adds some tasty guitar to Cross Road Blues.
Guitarists Honey Boy Edwards and Joe Louis Walker turn up on Travelling Riverside Blues. Dr John's hands massage the ivories on From Four Until Late and They're Red Hot. Hubert Sumlin plays guitar on Dead Shrimp Blues and Otis Rush is the guest on I'm A Steady Rollin Man and Little Queen Of Spades. Green is in pretty good form on guitar, harp and vocals. This is the Splinter Group's best yet.
