(Delmark)
www.delmark.com
Singer and piano player Sunnyland Slim was born Albert Luandrew on 5 September 1907 in Vance, Mississippi. He settled in Chicago in 1942 where he established his reputation with older musicians like Tampa Red and Lonnie Johnson. Slim recorded for a number of labels and produced albums on his own Airway label. He died from kidney failure on 17 March 1995. Also on Delmark is `House Rent Party' (655). His recording career spanned some fifty years.
`Smile On Your Face' was recorded on March 8, 9 & 16 in 1977 at P.S. Recording in Chicago. The other musicians are Lacy Gibson (guitar), Lee Jackson (guitar), Willie Black (bass) and Fred Below (drums). Six of the tunes are Slim originals. Some of the tracks are `Bessie Mae', `Be My Baby', `Everytime I get To Drinking' and `Depression Blues'. Lacy Gibson takes over the vocals on `Cryin' For My Baby' while Lee Jackson is the vocalist on `Hard Luck Blues' and his own songs `Juanita' and `Lonely Girl'. A very strong recording.
