Smokin' Joe Kubek
Bite Me!
(Bullseye) Shock
Smokin' Joe Kubek was born in Grove City Pennsylvania on 30 November 1956. He played rhythm guitar behind Freddie King until Freddie died in December 1976. In 1989 Kubek teamed up with Bnois King who comes from Monroe Louisiana. They released an album of covers in 1991 - The Axe Man on Double Trouble. They signed to Bullseye Blues shortly afterwards and their latest release Bite Me! is their seventh with that label.
Bite Me! was recorded at Pedernales Recording Studio in Pedernales, Texas. Jim Gaines produced it. On this latest release, the ultimate post-modern Texas blues duo of Kubek and King are joined by Jerry Hancock (electric bass and percussion), Jas Stephens (drums and percussion), Mark `Kas' Kazanoff (sax and harp), Les Izmore (sax) and Gary Slechta (trumpet).
Ten of the tracks are Kubek and King with the other guys helping out on a few. All of the songs are great including All About That Thang, I Gotta Have It, Roller Coaster Love, Don't Go Left on Me and I Know That's Right. Smokin' Joe has a new toy - the guitar talkbox, which has been making a bit of resurgence recently in rock and blues circles. It can be heard on If You Know What I'm Sayin'.
Smokin' Joe Kubek is kicking off the millennium with blues that bites!
